I’ve been collecting the things for winter tires for the Abarth. The round rubber bits have arrived! (Pirelli Winter Snowcontrol Series 3 to be specific.)
They’re over the top for the winters that Tennessee gets, but they were the best deal. I’m a sucker for a deal.

Kinja'd!!!

Wheels were acquired last week. Turns out they’re not stolen, so that’s good news.$100 for the set.

Kinja'd!!!

All in, after mount and balance, should be around $600

yes. <3 winter tires. with Blizzaks my SRT-4 could get through anything reasonable.

I looked at Blizzaks for the 17s currently on my car, but it was cheaper to get the 16s off craigslist and the Pirelli winter snowcontrols. More tire that way anyways.

I read the title as “uncomfortable excrement”

My 3 y.o. has had diarrhea the past couple days. I guess poop is on my mind (and my socks).

I think for your winter the best benefit from studless snows will be ice traction. I’ve driven to work without even noticing any loss of traction just to fall on my ass when stepping out of the car.

Well at least they are not studded tires.

Based on the past few years, yes, that will be true. My current tires are the oem p zero neros that are starting to wear thin. I’m excited about the possibility of traction when it gets to weathering outside.

Think of us when you see the Lake Erie snow belt getting pummeled with snow this winter. I’m on the edge of the the secondary snow belt south-east of Cleveland. About 5 years ago we got over 125" of snow for the season. Erie, Pa and Buffalo NY were really hammered that year. The weather guys are predicting we will maybe see something close to that, because of the warm temperatures not freezing the lake. The lake effect snows might be awesome this year.

I use nokian hakkapeliitta r2 on my s4 and love them. Might be an overkill for TN but in ME they are tanks!

We’ve had very unusual winters for Nashville the past few years. I guess it’s the new norm, I’m not a fan of it. None of us can drive worth a flip down here, so anything to assist is probably a good idea

If this is your first time with snow tires you’ll be amazed and even with FWD should be able to go everywhere with ease. You know you’ll have to post pictures in the snow now, its required.

I’ve driven trucks with all terrains, but that’s about as far as it goes. Never a more dedicated winter tire. I’m interested to see the difference.
Additional just general question: when should I start running them? Like is it going to be just generally awful in regular conditions?

When temps get in mid 50s or lower regularly. The more you run them over 50ºf the faster they will wear. The amazing thing about snow tires is that in climates where the snow and ice are more frequent they hardly wear. My Continental Extreme Winter Contacts are now 7 yrs old and have 6/32-7/32 of tread remaining. I’ve driven about 28k miles on them with my old A4 and now on my A3. I make a habit out of running errands in winter when the weather is crap because I know the car and tires are up to the task , the number of people out is lower and the tires won’t wear on snow and ice. I figure on getting rid of them because of age within next two seasons. They still are very soft and have no cracks.

Love my Nokian Hakkapellitas too. Probably a bit of an overkill for most of Portland OR, but totally awesome for going up to the mountain.

$100 for those wheels is an amazing deal. Bravo.

right?! I’d be casually checking CL for my area and surrounding. They’d been posted for over a month so I figured it would be ripe for a great deal - it was.
Turns out the guy works at a chevy dealer. One of his peers has an Abarth, put aftermarket wheels on it and was just tossing these. So dude grabbed them from the scrap pile and made $100. Some concern on the local fiat group was that they were stolen. One of the service techs for the local fiat studio knew they guy confirmed dude did just toss the wheels and he actually traded the car in recently.

Why the Pirelli’s?

I wish I could find a deal like that on wheels.

honestly, best deal (slightly less than $100 per tire after rebate) and I didn’t have a lot of options. The Fiat has an odd small car tire that really doesn’t have a middle ground tire. It’s either summer performance kind of thing or intense winter. Blizzaks for the 17s on the car were more expensive total than the pirellis and buying 16s. This way I can swap tires in the garage too which will be nice.
